Without any iota of doubt, the emergence of FAD 93.1 FM Calabar clearly changed the socio-cultural,economic and indeed political landscape of Cross River state,south-south region and Nigeria in general.
It is needless to say the FAD FM have successfully succeeded in carving a niche for itself in the area of civic education through political analysis, debate, commentary and coverage which is evident in political programmes such as The People’s Opinion, Piom Piom, The Verdict, The Hard-line and News.
Beside changing the sociopolitical narrative of the state, FAD FM has consistently engaged opinion leaders, political leaders, faith base organisation, the academia, students, leaders of thought among other strata in a deliberate manner to bring to the fore some very salient and crucial matters for public consumption.
Though, the road to stardom is very narrow, whereas FAD FM’s continues rowing of its boat amidst a very challenging environment and opponents is worthy of commendation.
At 3, FAD FM can proudly say she have succeeded in molding character through political awareness, effect attitudinal change, educate Nigerians on their rights and obligations as citizens, engage government on the need to deliver the needed infrastructure and Democratic dividends promised during campaigns and other political engagements, propagate gender base issues, enlighten young people on the need to became responsible adults as well as entertaining the people.
Situated in a choice area within the Cross River Housing Estate, FAD FM is the people’s radio as so many abandon their early morning chores to listen to political analysis and discussions.
It is worthy to note that FAD FM became the first radio station in Calabar if not in South-South to report in detail the 2019 general election including the February 16th cancelled presidential and national assembly election from all the 18 local government areas in the state apart from other strides such as live coverages and the first to hold a political summit.
Consequently, all these strides can’t be accomplished without the smart and hardworking staff, ebullient leadership of Mr Fidelis Duker and wife, resilient and future-oriented management, able and highly educated analysts, and great customers and investors and indeed the conscious security personnel.
In terms of national spread, FAD FM is one radio station which prides self to have almost all the dominant ethnic group to include Tina Akwaeke-Igbo,Victor Edak (Prof Aboki)-Yoruba,Idem Ita-Efik,John Tanko-Hausa, Segun Ogundeji- Yoruba among others.
Suffice it to say that FAD FM’s prolific political discussions has consciously energised many Cross Riverians to take government on issues of security, human rights abuses, press freedom, child labour and trafficking, rape cases, kidnapping, communal clashes and industrial action to mention but a few.
As FAD marks 3, the need to consolidate in terms of spread, staff welfare,in dept reportage and sport casting, as well as having an able hand at the National Assembly Abuja is highly beckoning.
Although, all these can’t be achieved in a day, whereas the possibilities are enormous and the time to sustain the tempo is now if the quest is to be the number one Talk, Music and News radio.
Happy 3rd Anniversary from THE VERDICT.
