Disturbed by allegations of infidelity levelled against the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akoabio by Mrs Joy Nuneh, a prominent woman from the region Ntunkai Grace Eyo Ita has call on leaders of the Niger Delta region to exhibit sense of brotherliness and resolve the matter between the duo even as it is before the National Assembly.
Ntunkai Grace who made the call at a press conference held in her home in Calabar, the Cross River State capital posited that leaders of Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers States, the entire Niger Delta region and indeed Southern Nigeria must come together to resolving matters that concerns their interest before it escalate into a national shame.
“I believe that in a situation like this when two distinguished people from the same region happens to have issues there should be a way of reconciling them. I urge Nyesom Wike whom I have tremendous respect for as a true democrat, my governor, Sir Ben Ayade and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom to weigh into the matter and resolve the empasse amicably ” she stressed.
.Ntunkai Grace who is also a lawyer maintained that though while she is not exonerating Akpabio of the allegation wondered why someone like the former Akwa Ibom State Governor that has made immense contributions to women and children will condescend so low to harassing a woman.
“Though I condemn sexual harassment or worst case scenario rape in totality, whereas people should be cautious when such issue come up to the public. I don’t want to believe that when two adults are together to an extend of having relationship it will be awkward for the woman to suddenly come up with spurious allegations of harassment.
“Godswill is a man I have known for fifteen years as a fine politician, a hard working and innovative man, a devout Christian dedicating to improve the lot of the people of Niger Delta region particularly women and children should not be drag in the mud just like that.
Mrs Grace who is the first woman lawmaker ( State House of Assembly) in the old Cross River said men also should be protected from rape allegations for the sake of those whose stick in trade is to destroy people.
Ntunkai therefore admonish Joy Nuneh to be strong throughout this moment of travail and continue to be steadfast in every of her doings.
Contributing, an elder of the Ejagham kingdom, Comrade Obi Offiong Ojaje said the people of the South South must not allow themselves to be humiliated by other regions that believe good things shouldn’t come from the region.
He also caution those that uses the tool of politics to bring down people to desist from the trade or face the wrath of God.
