The Speaker, Cross River State House of Assembly, Mr. Eteng Jonah Williams, has reiterated the need for Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Cross River Internal Revenue Service to educate the people on why, how, and when to pay tax to avoid aversion and controversies associated therein.
Eteng stated this in an interview with Journalist during a Town hall Meeting organized by Cross River Internal Revenue Service entitled; “Sensitization and Enlightenment of Taxpayers for Voluntary Tax Compliance” held at Chanel View Hotel, Calabar.
The Speaker while stressing that tax payment is a fundamental legal duty and obligation of every citizen also maintained that the people have the right to know why and the importance they are to pay tax.
Speaking further, the legislative head said citizens have the rights to know why they are multi-tax.
He averred that government must pay for those it exempted from taxation in the state, noting that tax is a constitutional requirement of every citizen.
