Godwin Akwaji, lawmaker representing Obudu State Constituency at the Cross River State House of Assembly has advocates the need for governments at all levels to take proper care of traditional rulers in the country.
Akwaji stated this on the heels of series of challenges facing the traditional institution in Nigeria.
The parliamentarian who stated this during a courtesy visit of some Members of the Cross River House of Assembly to the Paramount Ruler of Obudu, Uti Joseph Davis Agba, lamented that most royal fathers in the country has no means of transportation or a palace that befit their status.
While regretting that most traditional rulers have being without their stipends for several months, also appealed to the Speaker, Mr. Eteng Jonas to create an endowment fund where the needs of the monarchs who are custodian of peace in their various communities will be taken care of.
The lawmaker pointed out that the idea of royal fathers riding on motorcycles does not augur well in view of what is obtainable in other clime.
He therefore urged the Speaker to engage the Executives so as to ameliorates the plight of the monarchs
In a remark, Speaker Eteng while appreciating God for endowing JD Agba with good health and long life; thanked the monarch for inculcating in the young generation good virtues.
Eteng therefore thanked the people of Obudu for sending such an outstanding and credible personality of Akwaji to represent them, hence calling on them to consider him for a second term.
